“The single most important skill on the pitch is peripheral vision.”
Arsène Wenger, Arsenal FC

Senaptec Strobe Glasses are a training tool designed to help individuals strengthen the connection between the eyes, the brain and the body.
It brings old methods of vision blocking and strobe-effect training into the modern era for the modern athlete, to help improve eye hand coordination, concentration, visual endurance, peripheral awareness, anticipation, dynamic visual acuity (tracking moving objects while moving) and reaction speed.
Using liquid crystal technology, the Strobe Glasses lenses flicker between clear and opaque, removing visual information and allowing the athlete to become more efficient with the information they are given. Instead of seeing a ball thrown the entire way, it is seen for segments and the eyes and brain are forced to adjust to the limited frequency of information that the visual system has access to. By limiting the information, the athlete is forced to reduce their reliance on visual feedback, causing them to react and make decisions more quickly, improving their processing of visual information and ‘slowing the game down’.
Senaptec Strobe Glasses can be seamlessly integrated into existing training drills. The training strategy is to first do a drill without the Strobe Glasses, followed by the same drill wearing the Strobe Glasses at increasingly difficult levels, and lastly, repeating the drill without the Strobe Glasses so the athlete can feel the training effect. Noticeable improvements in just 4 weeks.
The Senaptec Strobe Glasses can be implemented into hitting, catching, shooting, passing & throwing drills and into agility, balance and coordination exercises. They can be used to add a new challenge for injured players undertaking restrictive drills, or during recovery sessions when focussing on skill acquisition.
*Senaptec Strobe Glasses have also been used as a tool for amblyopia therapy.
“Players certainly experienced a steady rate of improvement in tasks despite the reduced visual cues, and we feel using this type of cognitive training is beneficial to our overall skill development program.” Peter Berbakov, High Performance Operations Manager, Sydney Swans
“From a recovery point of view, it’s a novel approach to sparking the neural system. It gives the guys a different stimulus.” Troy Thomson, Elite Performance Manager, NRL Kangaroos
“We were able to see the benefit from them (strobe glasses) with our catch pass and lineout work, which was areas in which we needed to work on this year. Our jumpers loved them and said they were able to watch the ball into their hands a lot more.” Caitlin Aquilina, Performance Analyst, NSW Waratahs (*NSW Gen Blue U20 Trial)
“We have been using the strobe glasses for the first time this season (2017/18). The glasses appealed to us as a means of increasing the mental difficulty and engagement of low intensity shooting sessions outside of main training in order to better transfer the skill improvements to game scenarios. We have also experimented using the glasses for drills unrelated to shooting. Since expert players are better at reading cues, on a subconscious level, in order to anticipate their opponents actions, the glasses provide a means of encouraging players to learn to anticipate earlier since they are constantly losing vision and with it the ability to pick up on later cues.” Darrell Morgan, Strength & Conditioning Coach, Perth Lynx
“We use the strobe glasses to limit the amount of visual feedback players receive during training. This allows us to increase the technical difficulty of training session and ultimately helps us to test and train players’ adaptability to varying constraints during games.” Dr Job Fransen, Sport and Exercise Science, University of Technology Sydney

The recently released (Feb 2018) Senaptec Quad Strobe Glasses are the next generation of stroboscopic eyewear designed to improve reaction time, spatial awareness, balance, and visuomotor skills. The new Quad Strobes offer all the capabilities of the basic strobe glasses and much more, significantly improving the precision in applications.
In this new version, each lens in the Senaptec Quad Strobe is segmented into quadrants. From the glasses themselves or using the Senaptec Strobe App, the user can activate each region independently and customise the occluding patterns according to their performance or therapy activity.
Senaptec’s sensory training technology compliments any cognitive performance / pattern recognition training tools.
